Holiday Card Project

IN MEMORY OF DELTON BROWN!

What is the Holiday Card Project? The purpose of the Holiday Card Project is to create holiday cards for people who are hospitalized during the holiday season. The idea behind the project is to simply try to bring a little cheer to those who are undergoing hospital stay. Exactly who receives the cards? The cards will distributed to both U.S and international hospitals. The cards will be delivered in-person by a representative. The patients who receive the cards in range from children to seniors and have illness or injures that vary from mild to terminal. What should I write in a card? Be as creative as you'd like. Just remember the degree of illness for patients will vary so it is important to be cheerful. Some suggested greetings include "Hope you're feeling better, "Thinking of you", or "Have A nice day". Try to stay away from "Get well soon" as it might not be appropriate for all patients. Remember to include a message of "Happy Holidays". Will the patients know who sent the cards? The only way a patient will know who the card is from is if you sign your name. If you would like to send your card anonymously you may. Can I send more than one card?

African Proverb #7

An intelligent enemy is better than a stupid friend.

I think that means it's better to like a person that's smart but their your enemy than to be friends with a stupid person that isn't willing to help you out with school material things. It's not about people you don't like and people you don't like because you are your own person, meaning your independent and you don't have to count on nobody but your family. God didn't put you on this world to not like somebody. I would say try to be friends with that person again because you never know when your going to need that person for something important such as school work.

African Proverb 6

It is better to be loved than feared.

I think that means it's better for people to like you than to hate you. In other words, most people would like to be loved than hated because people don't want to be around you if your making bad choices all the time. Safe for instance, my parents love me very much and if they feared me, I wouldn't like that because I wouldn't want to be feared by my own parents, I want to be loved by them because If they I feared them, I wouldn't be able to live with them because I don't know what they could do. I love my family too much to be feared by them so that's why it is better to be loved than feared.

Also, I know there's a lot of people that their parents are feared by their own children because their child is making the wrong choices. Your parents wouldn't want to raise you if you can't respect them. Your parents wouldn't want to do for you if your disrespecting them and doing other bad things. There's plenty of people in this world that would like to be loved, and there's plenty of people that doesn't like to be loved so what I'm saying is it's better to be loved than feared because people don't want to be around a feared person.

Extra Money

If I had an extra hundred thousand dollars to give away, you can not spend it on your self. What would you do with the money.

If I had a hundred thousand dollars, I would give all that money to both of my parents so we can move out of Philadelphia and move to Florida. I know how bad my parents and family wants to move to Florida so ill give half to my parents and the other half to my grandparents. If it's not enough, they can put the other money towards it but at least I gave them both half so it won't be hard for us and my grandparents to get a house down there because the houses are way cheaper down there then up here.

Also, the reason I will spilt it because I love my grandparents and my parents and I want the best for the both of them, Their both always there for me so I want to be there for them so we can both live better down there then up here. Their aren't much nice houses up here, but I go to Florida every summer and I'm a witness to say that their houses and nice up there. Florida is called the "Sun Shine State" and Summer is my families best season so it will be better down there because it's always hot up there and it never snows up there.

African Proverb 4

"The fool speaks, the wise man listens."

I think that African Proverb means that when someone is telling you to do the right thing, always listen because bad things happen to people when they are not in the right place. Safe for instance, a shooting is going on and you are with a friend and he tells you not to go down there for the shooting and you don't listen and go down there anyway. You might can get shot, or something else bad could of happened because you didn't listen and and didn't follow your first mind. Always follow your first mind because anytime you follow your second mind, 9 times out of 10, your second mind could be wrong, and not positive. This African Proverb can help me in my everyday life because anytime I want to think about doing the wrong thing, always listen to someone thats telling you the right thing, and follow my first mind.

African Proverb #3

"One camel does not laugh at another camel's hump".

I think that means that when somebody does something wrong, that doesn't mean you have to make fun of them or talk about them in a harmful way just because of what they did such as a slight mistake. For example, say there's a class with 25 people in the class, and the teacher calls on a certain person to answer a question, and that person gets a answer wrong and then the whole class laughs at that person, thats what the proverb is explaining, just because somebody made a mistake doesn't mean that everyone has to laugh or tease that person. I know most people in this world don't liked to be teased, well if you don't make fun of that person then don't make fun of anybody else. That African Proverb can be used in my everyday life because anything I want to make fun of someone or tease them, I will think of the Proverb and that will help me not to tease that person because I wouldn't want somebody to tease me all the time.

African Proverb 2

"Cross the river in a crowd and the crocodile won't eat us."

I think that proverb means to never follow after someone. I reason I say that is because following someone else can get you into a lot of bad things. For example, if your following someone at the wrong time and do something bad, but one didn't do anything, and one did, and if the police finds both then the both of yall will be going to jail. Therefore, basically what I'm saying is to take responsibility for your own actions. Bad things happen to people when they follow someone and it';s at the bad time. That proverb can be used in my everyday life because I don't follow after people I'm my own self, and if i ever want to follow somebody, i'll think twice and realize it's the wrong thing to do.

African Proverb

"Knowledge is better than riches"
What does that African Proverb mean to you? How can it be used in your everyday life? Give an example

That African Proverb means if you have a good knowledge and know a lot about what your good at, you wont have no problem trying to get the job you want. However there are a lot of people in this world that wish they can have a lot of money, but if you have the brains and do what's right, by going to college and graduating, you will have so much more jobs to apply for, other than a person that didn't go to college and graduate. Therefore,, I believethat knowledge is better than riches because in this time period, you can't always have what you want, but if your smart and go for what you've worked for, you will have the money you deserved. Also, that Proverb can be used in my everyday life because it will help me, and make me think. For instance, if I'm feeling down one day, all I can do is think about the quote, and that will help me strive for what I want to work for I will be able to get the money I need. I feel that if you don't work hard enough in school or college, than you won't be able to get a good job or the money.

08-09 School Year

I believe that my school year will go great this year. In fact, my goals for this year is to pass all my classes, stay focused, and pay attention in class. Although this is my last year in middle school, and i will be going to high school next year really doesn't mean anything because this is where it starts, and I need to learn all i can now so I can be ready for high school. In addition, I did accomplish a few goals last year. Actually, I brought up all my grades up from the 2nd report period going to the 3rd one. For example, I wasn't very good in math last year, but when I got the extra help I needed, I turned out to be very successful in class, and on my report card.

I feel that my benefits of attending New Media Charter School are to learn all I can now, so i can be successful in high school, and mainly to get better on the computer, and learning a lot more my 8th grade year. My strongest subjects last last were social studies, reading language/arts, and digital multimedia. Surprisingly My weakest subjects last year were science and math. As a result, I hope my year will go perfect at New Media because I want to go into high school knowing must of the things they teach because I will already know it from middle school.

PSSA

I wonder how i did on the PSSA testing. I think that if i would of tried harder i would of did better. For instance i had a lot of open ended questions that were very confused and some of them i couldn't figure out. In fact i tried my best and i what i could . I feel as though New Media Technology Charter School will make A.Y.P this year of 2008 because we really stayed confident to pass these test.

It seems like the PSSA was so hard but it really wasn't. In fact all i had to do was pay full attention and try harder and the open ended questions would of been way more easier than i thought they were. Maybe i will do better next time we take the PSSA test next year when i go o the 8th grade.I believe that my school has what it takes to make A.Y.P.

I feel that our teachers helped us as much as they could to get us ready for the PSSA. I think the class that really helped me out with being successful on the PSSA was DMM-STUDY ISLAND,and MATH CLASS. Clearly thoose are the two classes that really helped me out with the PSSA. An addition to everything we learned since the first day of school really helped me out a lot. In short thats how i feel about the PSSA TESTING.

what the brain sees!

The brain most quickly and easily responds to four major attributes of all viewed odjects: color, form, depth and movement.

COLOR:
Every color we see can be made with three basic, primary colors-Red, Green and Blue AKA RGB.

Secondary colors in light are formed when two primary colors are mixed together. When mixed equally, red and blue light will make magenta. Green and red will make yellow. Blue and Green will create cyan AKA CMYK.

Extra credit:
When printing you use secondary colors the reason why is because you have more colors to work with.CMYK
For the web you use RGB because it makes your file size smaller.

FORM:
Another common attribute of images that the brain responds to is the reconigtion of form.Form defines the outside egdes and internal parts of an object and has Dots, Shapes, Lines.

DOTS:
The dot is the simplest that can be written Hundreds of small dots grouped can form complex pictures.Georges Seurat and other pantillist artists in the ninteenth century used a technique called pantillism.

LINES:
When dots of the same size are drawnso closely togeher that here is no space betweenthem, the result is a line.Lines whether straight, curved or in combination, evoke an emotion.

1. Curved lines conery a mood of playfulness and movement.

2. If lines think and dark their message is strong and confident.

3. If lines are thin and light with a clear separation between them, their mood is delicate, prehaps a bit timid.

Shapes:
The third of form, shpes is a combination of dots and lines into patterns. The three basic shapes are parrallegram, circles, and triangles.

Depth:
If humans had only one eye confined their visual messages to drawings on the walls of caves, there would be no need for complex illustrations. But because we have 2 eyes set slightly apart, we naturally see in three rather than 2 dimensions.

Movement:
Reconnizing movement is one of the most important traits in the survival of an animal. There are four ttypes of movement, real, apparent, graphic, and implied.

Real Movement:
It is a actual movement by a viewer by some other person or object.

Apparent Movement:
Apparent or illusionary movement is a type of motion in which stationary objects appear to move. The most common example of this type of movement is a flip book.

Graphic Movement:
Can be the motion of the eyes as they scan an area or the way a graphic desinger posiitions elements.

So that the eyes move throughout the layout.
Implied Movement:
Is a motion that a viewer perceives in a still, single image without any movement of object, image or eye.Opical or Op art has been used in advertisments and in posters to achieve pulsating.Visual vibration is the term used for the images.
